Viridor makes acquisition

Viridor Waste Management (VWM) has acquired a company responsible for handling approximately 240,000 tonnes of material per annum.

The takeover of Skipaway Holdings is in line with its parent company, Pennon Groups stated strategy of expanding its waste management activities, particularly in the areas of landfill, power generation and waste treatment.

The Kent-based company comprises of three transfer stations with associated industrial and commercial waste collection and recycling activities operating in the Medway Town, Faversham and Ashford areas.

And with VWM having complimentary disposal, collection and recycling assets in the county, the acquisition will be integrated into the companys south eastern region.

VWM chief executive Colin Drummond said: Skipaway has an excellent track record over the past two decades.

This acquisition fits very well with VWMs strategy of expanding its waste transfer and treatment businesses, particularly in regions such as the South East where there are synergies with existing assets.
