Viridor Waste Management opens new landfill site in Scotland

Viridor Waste Management has just opened its new landfill site at Rigmuir, Scotland. The site is based just south of East Kilbridge and over the next 10 years is looking to accept around 110,000 tonnes of non-hazardous waste. It will be accepting non-recyclable waste residues from South Lanarkshire, under a contract announced in June this year, however the intention is to expand on this business. Viridor business development manager Clive Barber said: Rigmuir enhances our spread of facilities in Scotland, so that we can better serve our contracts in the west. It gives us important new landfill capacity, which Scotland will need however successful it is in meeting European recycling targets. Since receiving planning approval for the site earlier this year, Viridor has completed extensive initial works at Rigmuir. Substantial quantities of previously fly-tipped waste were dealt with, initial landscaping work has been done and the first landfill cell has been fully engineered.
