Waste Strategy delayed again

The Waste Strategy has been delayed again.

Many in the recycling and waste management industry had been told that the strategy would be announced next week on May 9.

But MRW understands that it will now be published either on May 23 or May 29.

A Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs spokeswoman confirmed that the publication of the strategy had been delayed.

She said: It will now come out at the end of the month. There have been a few more re-writes, the local elections have delayed things a bit and it has been difficult to find an appropriate time to announce it.

The Waste Strategy was largely expected at the end of 2006, but was then delayed to March 2007. It was subsequently put back to May 9.

The original reason for the delay late last year was that Environment Secretary David Miliband wanted a review of the strategy following the publication of the Stern Report on climate change and the implication it would have on carbon emissions.
