SR Waste Recycling has permits revoked

The Environment Agency (EA) has revoked two environmental permits from Barnsley-based SR Waste Recycling.

The permits allowed the business to operate its waste electrical and electronic (WEEE) recycling facility at Shaw Lane, Carlton and a site at Oakwell Business Park, both in Barnsley, although the latter was not in use.

The EA says both permits were revoked on 30 June following a notice period. Without an environmental permit or relevant exemption from the EA, a company cannot legally operate as a WEEE recycling business.

The EA has announced that the company and director Simon Robinson are due to appear at at Barnsley Magistrates’ Court later this month.

Both are charged with failing to comply with an enforcement notice under Regulation 36 of the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2010 requiring the removal of non-permitted waste from the Shaw Lane site and failing to ensure that any WEEE stored at the site was covered and had appropriate weatherproofing.
