This represents a 71% rise in the number of accolades given, which organisers attribute to the increased importance of and investment in public green spaces.
The coveted award which recognises excellence in parks management was given to Higginson Park in Marlow for the second year running. And local authority Wycombe District Council put the success down in no small part to municipal services contractor Verdant Group.
The UK-owned company is a specialist in the provision of environmental services and offers a wide range of waste collection, recycling and cleansing services to an expanding customer base of local authorities.
Among its customers are Mid Bedfordshire District Council, Bridgend County Borough Council and South Oxfordshire with the clearance and maintenance of parks and open spaces a major consideration.
With Higginson Park over 23 acres in size, providing waste services is a huge challenge especially in light of the fact it is used by nearly one million people a year and hosts many community events including the major Marlow Festival.
It also comprises of childrens playground areas, catering and toilet facilities, large lawns, flowerbeds, putting green and maze, riverside walks and a cricket pitch.
Verdant business manager Jason Eldridge said: Again, this is excellent news for Verdant and the council, and especially for local residents who use the park so much.
The sheer size of the park and the many activities it hosts mean our crews are always busy, especially after public events when up to 10,000 people can visit each day. Its all about a great partnership between a public service contractor and a local authority.
