WRAP Cymru targets hospitality sector food waste

Grants worth a total of £920,000 are now available for food waste reduction in the hospitality and food manufacturing industries.

SMEs can apply for funding to WRAP Cymru, which can award up to £60,000 per business - £50,000 for waste prevention or recycling equipment and £10,000-worth of advice from a consultant specialising in food waste.

WRAP Cymru says businesses can save £1,800 with every tonne of avoidable food waste they throw away.

The entire hospitality industry in Wales – encompassing pubs, restaurants, hotels, fast food outlets and catering – could save £5m a year by recycling more.

WRAP Cymru also offers access to best practise case studies and toolkits on its website.

‘We’ve worked closely with the hospitality and food and drink industries to come up with a package that truly meets their needs. That’s why we’re not only offering businesses the chance to save money by learning how to reduce their waste, but up to £50,000 towards the cost of new equipment too,” said WRAP Cymru Business and Markets Manager Susan Jay.

SMEs can apply online. Jay said WRAP Cymru wants to start awarding grants as soon as possible.
