Wrap funding boosts business food waste collections

Wrap has awarded funding to seven contractors to deliver food waste collection services to businesses.

The collections will start this summer, servicing a range of businesses in the hospitality and food service sectors from Devon to York.

They aim to divert 26,000 tonnes of food waste from landfill by 2014.

Wrap head of collections Linda Crichton said more than 40 applications for funding were received.

“The projects selected cover different collection approaches and contractual arrangements and will provide services to a range of food waste producing businesses and public sector organisations,” she added.

Recipient contractors are Cape; Greenability; First Mile; Sita; Leeds Paper: Yorwaste; and Brighton Paper Round.

  • This is not fair for all the food recycling service providers already trying to raise the profile and give these recipients an advantage

  • This is a joke - what a complete waste of public money. Why should these commerical companies receive a penny of Wrap funding when the rest of us have to invest our own money. Wrap should be Scraped.
