WRAP has published consumer research and communication tools to help councils in engaging with residents on the matter of food waste prevention and collection.
Good food worth an estimated £12bn is thrown away each year by UK households. Some 4 million tonnes end up in landfill.
WRAP says that raising awareness of recycling possibilities and their benefits is essential to reduce the amount of food waste.
Its consumer insights on prevention and maximising food recycling, as well as effectively communicating messages on waste prevention and collection are intended to be used to support the roll-out of new food waste collection facilities.
WRAP is also offering one-to-one support for local authorities wishing to use the material. More information is available from WRAP by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
