Wrexham opens its new recycling facility

A new recycling facility has been opened in Wrexham as part of Wales first PFI project.

The materials recycling facility, transfer station, in-vessel composter and Household Waste Recycling Centre known as Wrexham Recycling Park at Bryn Lane was opened by Welsh Environment Minister Jane Davidson.

The PFI deal was signed in 2007 between Wrexham Council and Waste Recycling Group and also involved the refurbishment of HWRCs at Brymbo and Plas Madoc.

Wrexham Council leader Cllr Aled Roberts said: The opening of this facility follows many years of hard work by officers and members to ensure that Wrexham was able to dispose of the majority of household waste with minimum use of unsustainable landfill methods. We are confident that we will reach our recycling targets in future years and look forward to a continuing partnership with Waste Recycling Group.

Wrexham Council was allocated £40 million over 25-years from the Welsh Assembly Government to help ensure the facility was built.
