WRG recruits ex-Scottish rugby star

A former Scotland and British Lions rugby star has taken a senior post at the FCC subsidiary, Waste Recycling Group (WRG).

Paul Burnell is the new commercial and industrial director, having previously been a commercial director at Biffa.

Burnell is recruiting a team of business development, operations and logistics professionals to engage existing and potential customers in considering their waste collection needs.

Last year the chief executive of FCC’s UK operations, Paul Taylor, signalled a move into securing waste streams through the development and expansion of a commercial and industrial (C&I) collection service.

Burnell said: “We already have an unrivalled reputation for handling C&I waste on a third party basis. We’re going to be focusing on those areas where we already have waste treatment and processing infrastructure in place.

“We want to demonstrate how we can add real value and efficiencies by undertaking their collections direct, and help them deliver the best and most sustainable waste management solutions.”

Burnell was capped 52 times for Scotland and, for the Lions, played alongside rugby legends such as Rob Andrew, Gavin Hastings and Will Carling.
