Yorwaste wins £50 million contract

A £50 million contract has been won by Yorwaste to handle York citys waste for the next 15 years.

North Yorkshire based Yorwaste will be responsible for the disposal of residual waste from domestic and commercial collections and from household waste recycling centres. It will also dispose of material from street cleansing, fly tipping, gully cleansing and the output of waste treatment plants.

Yorwaste recycling and external affairs manager John Miller said: We aim to recycle at least 40% of the total volume of waste processed [which would be about 44800 tonnes], in line with our goal of not wasting waste.
