Who are you?
Reuben Bolton, commercial director, Bolton Brothers
How did you get into the waste industry?
I am the second generation in our family along with my two brothers Oliver and Michael and my sister Jodi, who are all directors in the business too. I have worked full time for the company for 25 years directly after leaving school and have never worked elsewhere since!
What did you buy?
Hitachi ZXUS-5 rehandler
Additional equipment to help pre-sorting and loading in our new MRF.
What was your criteria?
We were looking for good, quick reaction rehandling operation, which is always lacking when you have larger 360 machines.
How did you research your purchase?
By going to other waste transfer stations to see what they were using and working out the best practice solution for our depot.
How many options did you consider and what were they?
We considered other makes and wheeled loaders but felt having used 360s with a selector grab previously, that they are more accurate for presorting purposes.
What did the equipment have to achieve?
Improved handling in our operations.
Were there any particular challenges to finding the right equipment?
No we already had the same sized machine in place working on a different part of the sorting operation therefore we already knew its capabilities.
What were the pitfalls to finding the right equipment?
Paying for another bit of kit!
Were there any other considerations to the purchase?
How does the equipment fit in with the company’s future plans?
Very well, as we increase our tonnage throughput rehandling equipment is of the upmost importance in achieving our growth ambitions.
Is the equipment future proofed?
Yes, this machine is equipped with the new Euro 5 low emission engine which provides better fuel consumption too.
