What is your product/technology?
Dax Airscience offers guaranteed odour control for enclosed spaces using AirSteril, the latest U/V light and controlled ozone technology.
Where would it ideally be used?
AirSteril can be used in any enclosed waste processing/recycling facility such as a MRF, WTS, RDF plant or anaerobic digester where offensive odours are created by the processing activities. AirSteril will not work in outside sites.
How is it different?
The innovative AirSteril technology eliminates odours without the use of chemicals, fogging, bio filters and other existing odour control systems. It is very easy to install and maintain and cheap to run. It uses thermal convection to force air through the air purification unit. It offers significant savings in installation and on-going running costs when compared to alternative systems.
What benefits does it offer?
Guaranteed odour control; saves 50% on existing systems; no chemicals, no filters, no fuss; no moisture, making it ideal for RDF processing; complies with regulations; improves neighbourhood relations; protects and upgrades permits; improves carbon footprint.
Where has it been used?
It is being used by Powerday’s MRF and Seneca WTS sites, Viridor WTS sites, Langage Farm anaerobic digester and New Earth Solutions.
The cost depends on the enclosed area, air changes and the level of contamination. Each AirSteril unit will cover an area of around 75sqm. A 3,000sqm enclosed space will require around 40 units costing around £48,000 to install. Each unit will require a lamp change every four months - each lamp costs £73.
Compared with other odour control systems there are up to 50% savings in costs.
What about maintenance?
The units require a lamp change every four months or so. This is easily undertaken using cherry pickers. A 5,000sqm site can be fully maintained in two days without any downtime.
What is its life span?
With regular maintenance and lamp changes an AirSteril unit has a guaranteed five year life.
How is it future-proofed?
The company is keeping up to date with waste legislation and developing new products accordingly.
Any future applications?
The AirSteril product was initially developed for odour and infection control in washrooms, care homes, offices, gyms, airports, hospitals, etc. It was then developed for the waste sector - the product is constantly updating.
How many have you sold and where?
800+ units sold to waste companies in the UK.
People living close to waste processing sites often complain about offensive odours. If businesses do not control odour levels they can be asked to stop the operation and serious breaches will attract an Envrironment Agency fine.
