Kit: NTM Polybody

What is your product?

The Polybody is a refuse collection body by NTM LinkTip, made from tough, durable, polypropylene.

Where would it ideally be used?

Food waste collections, clinical waste, garden/forest waste which is particularly corrosive, general waste and for missed bins.  The smaller vehicles are perfect for rural, hard to access areas, like country lanes.

How is it different?

All Polybodies are cut, welded and constructed by hand and then chassis-mounted in NTM’s factory in Willenhall, West Midlands. NTM-LinkTip is the only manufacturer in the UK to use this particular type of plastic.

What benefits does it offer?

It is practically maintenance free. It has a long life span and a higher payload than its steel equivalent. There are many variations and body options, and a 3.5-tonne is available for hard to access areas.

It can be sealed for clinical waste and is easily hosed out for food waste, with no rust or damage.

Where it has been used?

Biffa operates a fleet of 18 plastic trucks, including eight for street cleansing services.

Denbighshire County Council operates three 7.5-tonne plastic RCVs on Isuzu chassis. Assistant fleet manager Chris Brown says it chose the Polybody for its small size, the fact that operators can drive them on a standard car licence if held before 1997; and because the vehicles are reliable and easy to maintain.

Cost?

A basic body with no chassis is priced from £14,000.

Any savings?

Figures based on the first model built show a 120% increase in available payload compared to a conventional steel body of a similar type on the same chassis.

What about maintenance?

The polybody is made from a superior plastic with qualities including high heat and corrosion resistance, is light weight and practically maintenance free. Should one section be damaged, it can easily be replaced.

What is its life span?

The plastic body can be mounted on almost any chassis. The body’s life span is approximately 14-years.

How many have you sold and where?

More than 100 units in the UK, with more on order.

Anything else?

NTM LinkTip offers a bespoke design service. The body can be mounted on almost any chassis, and there are options such as a roof loading or side loading bin lift, with hinged or sliding doors. The design can also incorporate split compartments.
