Biogas plant manufacturer Weltec Biopower is working on extending an anaerobic digestion (AD) project in Iffendic, Brittany for operator Samuel Morand. The biogas plant was built in 2014 and its capacity is being doubled to generate 500kW a day.
Samuel Morand already had the idea of extending the plant when the original was being built, but he had limited input material at the time. Weltec designed components such as the dosing feeder and pumps for the larger capacity.
The robust MultiMix input system was also implemented in such a way that it can now easily supply a second digester. It ensures efficient shredding of long-fibre and sticky substrates such as cattle manure and whole crop silage to enable use of the full energy potential.
The operator has successfully enlarged his agricultural business and now has a greater amount of manure at his disposal, while an apple juice manufacturer is now able to supply more production waste. This increase in the available substrate forms the basis for the plant to be expanded with an additional 2,625cu m digester for an additional 250kW combined heat and power.
