FCC Environment is touring an all-electric refuse collection vehicle (eRCV) around the UK this summer.
Visiting the UK from the company’s Madrid R&D facility, the vehicle is a four-axle plug-in hybrid self-charging machine. It is electrically powered with an ancillary compressed natural gas engine in case it needs to be recharged.
FCC claims 50-60% energy savings compared with conventional RCVs, zero emissions and near-silent operation, making night-time collections viable.
The eRCV fleet has been serving frontline operations in Madrid for the past five years.
