On Alderney, the third largest of the Channel Islands, the States Works Department has contracted recycling machinery specialist Middleton Engineering to supply and install a closed-end, semi-automatic baler at its Glacis recycling centre.
It will manage a full range of waste streams before shipment off-island for processing.
The centre sorts and grades 12-15 tonnes a week of mixed recycling, including refuse-derived fuel, waste paper, card, plastics, cans and tyres.
Middleton’s ME80A is designed for small-volume recycling operators. It handles a wide range of waste materials and, with its 80 tonnes press force, produces compact mill-size bales with a throughput of two to three tonnes an hour.
