Baling by the book

Todmorden-based Steward Recycling is using baling machinery from designer and manufacturer Whitham Mills to process magazines and books, which are notoriously difficult to bale.

The Godswill GB1175CSSS is a close-end automatic baling press weighing 8.5 tonnes. When operating at maximum capacity it can produce three to four tonnes an hour in bales measuring up to 1,100 x 750 x 3,200mm.

This £30,000 baler is the third that Whitham has supplied to the recycling firm, which has offered sustainable recycling in East Anglia for 40 years.

Richard Steward, managing director, said: “Baling books and magazines was proving difficult for our existing machinery. Whitham Mills’ baler has solved the problem, and the company’s after-sales support and relia-bility is refreshing in today’s industry.”
