Boost to hard drive shredder business

Safe & Secure Logistics has boosted the capacity of its waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) recycling service to pave the way for further growth.

The Slough-headquartered firm has invested in a hard drive shredder which will enable it to process more than 3,000 hard drives a week.

The Untha RS40 shredder uses ‘plug and play’ technology and was operational within the hour after delivery. That technology – plus the machine’s compact footprint – means the RS40 can be loaded on to a vehicle for additional use as a mobile shredder.

It is also capable of handling wider electronic media such as data sticks, mobile phones and video cassettes. Its four-shaft system produces an homogenous output fraction of 15mm which, coupled with the liberation of materials within hard drives, will ensure optimum recycling rates.

Previously able to tackle only 250 hard drives a day, SAS Logistics expects to see growth of 65% within the hard drive recycling side of the business.
