C&D waste safely retained

The owner of a £1.5m waste recycling centre being constructed near Theale in Berkshire has chosen Poundfield Products for the supply and installation of 110m of reinforced concrete retaining walling within the main waste reception area.

Hadley Recycling & Waste Management’s facility will have a capacity for up to 150,000 tonnes a year of mainly construction and demolition waste.

The 90 ‘A’ shaped Alfabloc wall sections installed by Poundfield are each 3m high x 1.2m wide, and are interconnected by bolted-on steel straps to spread loads horizontally.

In most applications Alfablocs can be freestanding but, because Hadley required a permanent structure, it ordered the optional ground fixing kits which comprise a pair of 500mm stud anchors for each wall section that are embedded into the floor and resin sealed.
