Council trucks can now view 360°

Vehicle safety and camera products company Sentinel Systems has worked with Glasgow City Council to install a number of its 360° camera systems on to the council’s food waste recycling vehicles.

Glasgow decided to opt for a technology that would improve the safety of vehicles in the presence of the public, particularly in busy areas of the city centre.

Sentinel’s cameras with inbuilt recording systems were installed on 12 vehicles, along with the company’s reversing radar systems. They allow pedestrians or cyclists to be alerted to the vehicles when turning left at road junctions and when reversing.

Emil Laiolo, transport manager, said: “Our drivers use the systems to help when manoeuvring in the city, which can be a challenge when the roads are busy and vehicles are moving around in smaller spaces.”
