A Tier IV-compliant EC220E weighing in at 22 tonnes and its larger 25-tonne brother, the EC250E, have joined a fleet of existing Volvo excavators and loading shovels, mobile crushers and screening units operated by Bristol-based Cotswold Recycling Company.
Managing director Richard Cooper said: “Our operators have a say in what we invest in, and they appreciate the comfort and performance of the Volvo machines.”
The Tier IV final six-cylinder engine develops 174 net horsepower for the EC220E, while the power unit in the larger EC250E is an eight-cylinder engine developing 213hp.
Operators can select the best work mode for the task at hand, ensuring optimum performance and fuel efficiency. Modes include: I-idle, F-fine, G-general, H-heavy or P-power, with the machine automatically setting the appropriate engine speed for the work mode. Eco mode is a new feature.
Pump flow is controlled for combined digging and swinging operations to reduce flow loss through the overload relief valves, while maintaining digging power and maximum swing torque.
Both machines have been supplied to Cotswold Recycling with full boxing ring-style hand rails mounted on the superstructure and optional X3 rotation circuits.
