Four cameras for safety

bike hotspot system

Vehicle safety specialist Sentinel Systems has worked with resources management company Bywaters to produce safer transport solutions for waste vehicles.

Bywaters has installed Sentinel’s system of four cameras along with the Bike Hotspot System on more than half of its 50-strong fleet. Mohamed Abdurahim, logistics support manager, said: “We particularly wanted to work with a company that handles all installations and services in-house rather than subcontract engineers.”

Sentinel’s four-camera system allows drivers to see their vehicle’s 360° surroundings, including blind spots. This view is created using high-quality cameras positioned at the rear, front and sides of the vehicle, and is tailored to the safety requirements of the fleet based on day-to-day operations.

Refuse collection vehicles in particular often require employees to travel outside the vehicle, which instantly poses a hazard to themselves and the driver. Now able to see people or objects, particularly at the rear, a driver can prevent a collision when manoeuvring.
