Birmingham-based B&M Waste Services has introduced a hybrid food waste collection vehicle. The waste is subsequently taken to an anaerobic digestion facility to generate biogas.
Andy Eames, fleet operations manager, said: “We wanted to ensure that the vehicles were futureproof and eco-friendly, so we opted for the Mitsubishi Fuso Canter Eco-Hybrid.
“Hybrid technology ensures reduced CO2 emissions and helps to increase mileage per gallon. Additionally, the body of the truck is made from lightweight plastic, enabling a greater payload.”
All the company’s fleet operates with Euro 6 engines. This aligns with the Birmingham Clean Air Zone initiative, which comes into operation in January 2020.
