Kerbside waste processed

Equipment manufacturer Whitham Mills has been appointed by Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council to provide waste processing machinery at a purpose-built MRF in Ebbw Vale.

Costing nearly £500,000, the equipment will be the largest public sector procurement of the past 10 years for a local authority recycling system. It will separate and bale around 5,619 tonnes a year of mixed plastics, steel and aluminium cans, card and paper material collected at the kerbside.

A council spokesperson said: “The machinery will allow better quality recyclable materials to be prepared ready for sale.”
