New truck for launch of commercial services

Devon Contract Waste (DCW) is preparing to launch commercial waste collection services to customers across Cornwall as well as its home county.

DCW has had a low-entry Econic in service since 2017 and has now ordered a 6x2 2630L model with rear-steer axle, 220kW (299hp) engine, and fully automatic, six-speed Allison transmission.

The vehicle will be supplied by specialist provider Refuse Vehicle Solutions. It purchases chassis from City West Commercials, then fits them with bodywork and ancillaries, including on-board weighing equipment and all-round cameras, before delivering the finished vehicles to customers.

The DCW truck will be inspected and maintained by City West under a seven-year Mercedes-Benz complete service contract.

“This arrangement makes perfect sense for us,” said managing director Simon Almond. “The fact that we know exactly what our future maintenance costs are going to be means we can plan ahead with confidence.

“This has certainly helped us to expand our business because it’s given us the peace of mind which comes from knowing there are no nasty surprises around the corner.”
