Not-for-profit OPRL has released a labelling tool, developed with Ricardo Energy & Environment, to help consumers get the right recycling information. The UK-wide On-Pack Recycling Label scheme has been developed in response to consumer calls for more consistent information.

The online tool, available only to OPRL members, automatically generates an image of the correct label once packaging format and material are input. The label has three categories which tell consumers how likely it is that their local authority will accept specific packaging materials for recycling:

Jane Bevis, chair of OPRL, said: “We are also working on extending our suite of label artwork and integrating it so that the label can be downloaded directly from the tool.”
