The 26-tonne Mercedes-Benz Antos truck, with its OM 936 engine at 7.7 litres and 260kW (354hp), debuted recently with a fully automatic Allison 3000 series transmission (above) in response to market demand for improved vehicle performance, reliability and control under severe driving conditions.
Allison transmissions incorporate a patented torque converter for reduced driveline wear and strain, lower maintenance and superior vehicle startability. This feature also allows precise vehicle alignment with bins and containers, driving in confined spaces and working at very low speeds.
Allison’s automatics are designed to deliver uninterrupted power shifts for increased average speed, productivity and operator comfort.
The configuration available in the Antos also features FuelSense, Allison’s fuel-saving technology, that selects the optimum shift schedule based on duty cycle and road conditions.
