Prevent overload and vehicle tip-up with accurate weighing

tipper body

What is your product?

The Loadweigh 4 tipper weighing safety system from Vehicle Weighing Solutions (VWS).

How does it work?

Loadweigh 4 prevents gross vehicle overload, as well as loading and tipping the vehicle in an unsafe manner. The system links three functions:

  • An intelligent junction box giving individual weights from four separate load cells
  • Load data to determine if it is loaded equally
  • An inclinometer, which identifies and sounds an alarm if the vehicle is starting to tip at a potentially dangerous angle.

Where would it ideally be used?

It is applicable to all tipper vehicles and of relevance to vehicle operators and specialist body builders in sectors such as utili-ties, highways and materials recycling, particularly those involved in transporting aggregates, tarmac, recycled stone, washed gravel and so on.

How is it different?

It is a complete weighing and safety package, comprising load cells manufactured in the UK and backed by unrivalled after sales support of VWS.

What benefits does it offer?

The system will help stop a vehicle from being overloaded, which is a huge and expensive problem, and protect the operator’s licence. It promotes best health and safety practice for drivers and others working on and around sites.

It is designed to reduce accidents occur from poor loading or overloading of tippers. It means the vehicle will be operating within manufacturer’s guidelines so the vehicle and chassis is not stressed. This reduces damage to hydraulic rams and other components.

Where has it been used?

It is currently in operation on vehicles involved in road and bridge building, construction, highways, recycling and aggregates. It has also been supplied to utility companies and councils.

Tipper body manufacturer Aliweld and Cemex, a multinational building materials company, are both using the system on their vehicles.

Trevor Marshall, Aliweld director, said: “A lot of operators have already told us they want the system fitted to their vehicles. It is great because it has everything that you need to comply with the latest quarry safety regulations as well as providing accurate load and weight data.”

Cost?

Approximately £2,000 excluding installation.

Any savings?

Loadweigh 4 assists in maximising the load so that vehicles operate at their optimum level, but without overloading. There are also savings on maintenance costs because the stress to bushes, bearings and rams is reduced.

What about maintenance?

It needs to be maintained and calibrated once a year, typically taking an hour. Maintenance can be done in-house, by VWS or at a body-builders. VWS provides comprehensive after sales service and technical support.

What is its life span?

The system will function as long as the life of the vehicle.

Any future applications?

There are many; discussions are currently being held with companies in the agricultural sector.

How many have you sold and where?

Hundreds of vehicles have been fitted with the Loadweigh 4 but this ‘all in one’ system has around 100 currently in operation.
