Safety when reversing

Commercial waste management firm DCW has installed a reversing safety aid, Reaclear, to two of its 26-tonne refuse collection vehicles.

Reaclear is a preventative reversing safety device from vehicle technology expert Innovative Safety Systems.

It comprises a hand-held device that houses a speaker and transmitter. The handheld unit is carried by an on-foot rev- ersing assistant and has a button that must be pressed before the vehicle is allowed to reverse.

If the button is not pressed while the reverse is engaged, an in-cab alarm sounds to alert the driver to stop. The system also enables communication between the driver reversing assistant.
