Sorters go into MRF upgrade

Plant builder and waste engineering company McDonald International has chosen Tomra Sorting as its technology partner for an upgrade project at Quality Recycling’s 11 tonnes an hour dry mixed recycling MRF in Carrick on Suir, Republic of Ireland.

Tomra reviewed existing equipment and provide guidance on the best bespoke design to increase throughput, achieve higher recovery rates and improve purity rates on the target fractions.

Three of Tomra’s Autosort units have been installed as part of the upgrade. The first captures mixed paper, the second has improved the plant’s plastic sorting capabilities and the third has replaced a unit from the previous supplier.

Luke Coyle, sales and marketing manager at McDonald International, said: “With more of our customers choosing to go down the upgrade route, this project is a good example of our ability to retrofit a plant with the minimum of disruption to day-to-day operations.”
