Road sweepings and construction & demolition materials are widely acknowledged to be difficult to process, especially in the water treatment systems associated with such plants.
Consequences can be plant downtime due to increased wear and blockages along with difficulty in achieving end-of-waste/waste-derived material accreditation on the final products with regards to road sweepings.
So CD-Enviro initiated an 18- month research project to develop a solution, resulting in the CO:- FLO, which offers up to 10 times cleaner water than that of a traditional high rate clarification system.
Suez installed CO: FLO on its road sweepings processing plant at Willenhall, West Midlands, and site manager Martin Bladon, said: “Since the installation, we have noticed a significant increase in the level of contamination in our centrifuge cake, which is a testament to the effectiveness of the CO:FLO, with the bonus of being able to increase plant throughput due to the new performance level.
“Our sand and aggregate products are now within the quality protocol limits, and we are just weeks away from having them declassified as waste and certified for reuse. This is a significant milestone for the road sweeping process industry.”
