Welsh baler upgrade

Whitham Mills has won its fifth tender in 18 months with the provision of an upgraded baling system for Conwy County Borough Council’s MRF in north Wales. The fully automatic system will help support the council’s drive to reduce operating costs and return maximum value to taxpayers.

The baler will produce bale sizes of 750 x 750 x 1,500mm with weights of 400-600kg and a throughput of eight tonnes an hour.

In a separate deal, Whitham Mills is to supply a conveyor system to automate the offloading of aluminium briquettes, which will involve alterations to the building that houses the system. Managing director Ben Smart said: “We initially supplied Conwy with a small MRF four years ago. Since then we have proven our reputation for reliability and customer service. It is fantastic to be able to increase the council’s waste processing capabilities with these installations, which will also reduce operating costs.”
