Welsh councils add balers to MRFs

Machinery designer and manufacturer Whitham Mills has been appointed by two local authorities in Wales to provide efficient balers for operation in their MRFs.

Flintshire County Council has upgraded its system on Spencer’s Industrial Estate, Buckley, with the addition of two semi-automatic 40H balers.

These are an upgrade from the existing continuous round tin balers, and are intended increase the authority’s capacity to process steel and aluminium cans at up to three bales per hour.

Conwy Council has purchased a GB1108FSS aluminium baler (pictured), capable of processing 3.6 tonnes an hour at its site at Bodlondeb.

Conwy recycling project technician John Clay said: “The council is committed to delivering excellent recycling performance for local taxpayers. We are currently ranked as third best in Wales and this is because we have invested in equipment and facilities that are appropriate and reliable.

“Both the equipment and after-sales service we have received from Whitham Mills has been excellent.”
