Trailer dumped in lay-by - January 2017

trailer dumped on roadside lay by

Clearland was engaged following reports of a stolen French-registered curtain-sided trailer abandoned in a lay-by in the West Midlands.

On initial inspection, it was found that the trailer had been dumped intentionally by criminals seeking to get rid of waste. Contained within the trailer was 71 tonnes of loose mixed shredded waste.

Clearland was asked to act quickly on acceptance of this project because there was pressure not only from the Environment Agency for the trailer to be removed and the waste disposed of but also from the haulier’s insurance company, based in France.

Due to the excessive weight of the trailer with the waste on-board, the curtain-sider failed to register on the weighbridge. So Clearland had to arrange for the trailer to be specially escorted by recovery vehicles.

Administration issues arose with the insurance company processing the safe return of the trailer, which caused delays at the start of the project. But once an agreement had been reached, the trailer was emptied and returned to France inside 24 hours.
