The contract covers 33,500 homes with a population of around 71,000.
The council wants a weekly residual kerbside collection and a fortnightly dry recyclate kerbside collection.
The latest recycling rate for the council is 30.8%, down from 33.9% in 2014-15.
FCC’s regional director Stuart Mander said: “FCC Environment has a growing reputation for service excellence across refuse, recycling and street cleansing services while delivering cost-efficient operations to support authorities.
“We are delighted to have been appointed by Barrow-in-Furness to carry out these vital functions on its behalf.”
