Coffey 'temporarily replaced' due to illness

Macclesfield MP David Rutley has been appointed resources minister at Defra on a temporary basis as Therese Coffey is taken ill.

The news was announced on the Defra website on 22 May. Coffey’s twitter account has continued to issue messages on current events.

Defra said Rutley’s role is unpaid and will be carried out in addition to his current duties as a Government whip.

A Defra spokesperson said: “Minister Coffey is currently absent due to ill health. We wish her a swift recovery and look forward to her returning to Defra soon.”
