EU rubber stamps new waste and recycling targets

The European Council has formally adopted the package of new rules for waste management and legally binding recycling targets, agreed last month by the European Parliament.

Endorsement of the package means that member states’ targets for the recycling of municipal waste will be 55% by 2025, 60% by 2030 and 65% by 2035.

Prime minister Theresa May has said the UK will transpose existing EU law intro UK law after Brexit prior to any subsequent change.

The legislation also defines specific recycling targets for packaging:
