FEAD signs up for plastics action

European waste industry trade body FEAD has signed the Circular Plastics Alliance’s declaration, which aims to ensure that 10 million tonnes a year of recycled plastics will be used to in product manufacture in Europe by 2025.

FEAD said that, by signing the declaration, it would bring the expertise and input of the private waste management industry into the alliance’s work and push for the development of a high-quality recycled polymers market.

It would also continue to call for measures such as mandatory green public procurement, binding recycled content in certain products, reduced VAT for products composed of recycled content and eco-design.

FEAD is the representative body for the private waste and resource management industry across Europe.

Meanwhile, UNESDA, the European soft drinks industry trade body, has also signed the declaration. President Tim Brett said: “Packaging waste is a serious and complex societal challenge that our industry is prioritising and has set clear ambitions that we aim to achieve.”
