Fire hits second plant in same road

Fire has hit recycling premises in the same road in east London for the second time in three weeks.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters were called to a fire at McGrath Group’s site in River Road, Barking, to combat a blaze in which some 200 tonnes of mixed refuse was alight.

London Fire Brigade said the fire was brought under control within seven hours and its cause was being investigated. McGrath said the fire had not damaged its premises.

The previous fire (pictured) in River Road – home to several waste industry businesses – hit a paper recycling plant and needed 15 fire engines to attend.

Fire engines were the same week called to a recycling plant in nearby Dagenham.
