North-east-based food waste recycling company Warrens Group is to take delivery of the first of a fleet of trucks powered by biomethane gas.
The company said this would make it the country’s first food waste recycler to power its refuse collection vehicles with biogas converted directly from its food waste customers.
Director Antony Warren said: “We’ve always been early adopters of the latest technology and methods.
”Our fundamental purpose is to collect waste and convert it into energy, so we have been looking for a biogas-powered vehicle for a while – it was just a question of finding the right one.”
The company collaborated with Iveco, which designs and manufactures natural power vehicles, and offered the Eurocargo Natural Power truck.
