Materials trader GRS has agreed a deal with Tarmac to become a primary partner at 20 sites across the UK.
GRS has formed a new division, Earth Solutions, to:
- Treat and reuse waste soils at inert landfill sites
- Process inert waste materials for aggregate recycling sites
- Sell and supply processed recycled aggregates
Tarmac will continue to operate these 20 sites, but with Earth Solutions taking over sales processes for all customers.
The development comes in the same month that GRS bought S Walsh & Sons, which partners major infrastructure firms for the removal, haulage, handling and recycling of construction and waste (C&D) materials in the London region.
The Walsh acquisition takes the total number of GRS employees to more than 800. The two businesses will operate around 50 sites, and are expected to handle over 20 million tonnes of construction aggregate and other materials a year.
Andy Olie, now managing director for Earth Solutions, said: “Our partnership with Tarmac is a key part of our growth strategy, allowing GRS to offer an integrated range of sustainable services for the removal, handling, recycling and disposal of C&D wastes.
“Besides the waste facilities themselves, the deal also means we gain the expertise of a network of waste specialists up and down the country. This will allow us to offer tailored solutions for customers and maintain high levels of service as we develop the new arrangement.”
Tarmac’s national landfill and recycling manager Andy Summers said: “Joining forces with GRS consolidates the expertise and capability of two teams in a single new business focused on waste materials. We’re confident that anyone involved in waste removal and disposal will benefit from the new solutions this partnership will bring.”
