Investigation into New Earth fire underway

An investigation is underway after a fire started at a recycling centre run by New Earth Solutions in the south-west.

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service (GFRS) was called to the facility on Sharpness Docks, Berkeley, at about 6am on 2 December.

More than 50 firefighters from GFRS and the neighbouring Avon Fire and Rescue Service fought the blaze, using 11 fire engines and an aerial platform.

Crews were supported by South Western Ambulance Service Foundation Trust and Gloucestershire police, who sealed off the area.

The Environment Agency and Severn Trent Water were involved.

A GFRS spokesperson said crews used the aerial platform to put out the blaze on 3 December with the site handed back to its owners by 6pm that day. An investigation into the fire’s cause was underway.

New Earth Solutions’ companies were bought by Irish waste firm PandaGreen in October.

MRW has contacted the company for comment.
