Man dies in incident at waste firm HQ

A man has died following an incident at a recycling company’s head office near Edinburgh.

An employee of construction parts provider SCG Supplies lost his life at waste collection firm NWH Group’s head office in Dalkeith last week. He was reportedly crushed in machinery.

The 47-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. Police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) are investigating.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Police in Midlothian responded to the Mayfield Industrial Estate at around 1.55pm on Wednesday 20 June following reports a man had suffered serious injuries on the premises.

“The Scottish Ambulance Service were also in attendance and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.”

A HSE spokesperson said: “WE are aware of the incident and inspectors have attended the site. Police Scotland currently has the lead on this joint investigation with HSE.”

Both NWH Group and SCG Supplies have been contacted for comment.
