Man dies in Veolia vehicle incident

A man has died following an incident with a Veolia refuse collection vehicle in Croydon, Surrey.

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said staff attended a road traffic collision involving a pedestrian in Cherry Tree Green.

“We sent an incident response officer, two single responders in cars and an ambulance crew to the scene,” they said.

“We also dispatched London’s air ambulance by helicopter. Sadly, despite extensive efforts, the person died at the scene.”

A Veolia statement said: “We can confirm that one of our collection vehicles was involved in a serious incident in the Sanderstead area of Croydon at 10.50am on 11 July in which tragically a man has died.

“Our deepest sympathy is with the family of the deceased. While we are unable to comment further on the circumstances at present, we are working closely with the emergency services and a full investigation into the incident is underway.”
