A Manchester man has been jailed for a year for illegally dumping 100 tonnes of pungent waste at a school.
Francis Anthony Heaton dumped the trommel fines (pictured) at the Kingfisher Special School, in Oldham, leaving it with a removal bill of £22,197.
The Environment Agency (EA) brought the case against Heaton after he was arrested for dumping processed household waste on the school’s car park. He pleaded guilty at Tameside Magistrates Court.
School gates were cut and removed to allow the waste to be deposited. Pupils had their education disrupted for two weeks because they were unable to use outdoor facilities due to an insect infestation.
EA area environment manager Mark Easedale said: “Heaton put the welfare of the pupils at risk and disrupted their education. This case is particularly disturbing as the Kingfisher Special School was made to pay to clear the waste.”
