An elderly man was killed on 7 April after being hit by a vehicle at a Hampshire County Council household waste and recycling centre.

The 84-year-old pedestrian was hit by a VW Transporter at the Fishery Close, Hayling Island, on 4.45pm.

Hampshire Constabulary said: “The pedestrian suffered life-threatening injuries and died as he was being transferred to hospital. His next of kin were informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

“Officers are working to establish the exact circumstances of the collision. No arrests have been made at this time.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire council said: “We would like to pass on our deepest condolences to the family. We are currently working with Hampshire Constabulary, the Health and Safety Executive and our site contractor to establish the circumstances of the incident.”
