The shortlist for MRW’s 2019 National Recycling Awards (NRAs) has been announced, with entrants vying for the top spot in around 20 categories.
The NRAs will be held at the London Hilton, Park Lane, on 27 June.
The judging is carried out by 18 independent experts drawn from all corners of the sector.
This year sees the continuation of a daytime events programme, featuring seminars and workshops on deposit return schemes, cybercrime, digitisation and others. Live judging will also take place for the Campaign of the Year category.
Mary Creagh, chair of the influential Environmental Audit Committee, is confirmed as one of the keynote speakers during the day. Creagh has been at the forefront of the resources agenda and overseen inquiries held on fast fashion and scrutiny of the Environment Bill.
Popular comedian and actress Kerry Godliman will host the dinner and awards ceremony.
Star of shows including Live at the Apollo, Godliman also features in BBC Radio 4’s The Wilsons Save The World, which features a family trying to ‘do the right thing’ on recycling and green issues.
MRW editor Corin Williams said: “The NRAs recognise the innovation, hard work and commitment of the UK resources and waste industry. Year after year, our sector provides an essential service to every household and business, and develops new technologies to capture the value in secondary materials and prevent waste in the first place.
“But it is not just about celebration – the event includes daytime speakers, sessions and workshops. It is a unique chance to network with waste management companies, academics, packaging firms, retailers, politicians, local authorities – the list goes on. The NRAs really do cover all bases.”
