Second blaze in a week in east London

The second recycling fire in a week has hit part of east London.

Four fire engines and 21 firefighters were called out on 30 May to a blaze at a recycling plant in Perry Road, Dagenham, where around 10 tonnes of recycled waste and car parts were damaged.

London Fire Brigade said it was called out in the late afternoon and had the fire under control in just over an hour, using crews from four fire stations.

It has not named the premises affected and the cause is under investigation.

Last week’s blaze was at a paper recycling plant in nearby River Road, Barking. The area is home to numerous waste businesses.
