Special fire engine attends recycling blaze

Fire crews from Berkshire and Surrey have grappled with a fire at a recycling site near Staines.

A blaze took hold on the morning of 27 March.

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire at Feather Lane, Wraysbury, needed crews from four stations and the deployment of a Zetros, an appliance capable of delivering high volumes of water.

It said: “Firefighters used two hose reels and the water bowser from the Zetros to extinguish the blaze, which destroyed approximately 100 tonnes of waste. The crews were on the scene for around an hour and a half.”

A spokesman for Fowles Skip Hire said this was the only recycling firm in the road concerned and all had returned to normal soon after the fire crews left.

The service has not commented to the cause of the blaze.
